Monica Trufil Aguilar
Monica graduated with her Bachelor of Laws and Journalism at the University of the South Pacific in 2020 and was admitted to the Fiji bar in the same year. She interned at the Attorney-General’s Office prior to joining a local private law firm as a Solicitor and Barrister specializing in commercial law, debt recovery and conveyancing law.
Monica joined Howards in 2022 and is currently part of the commercial law department and handles the trademarks applications.
Monica is a familiar face in the media industry. She started her career in the media industry when she was 18 years old. She’s worked for a local national newspaper company as a Business Journalist and Editor. She had also worked for Fiji Television Ltd as a Senior Business Journalist, Producer and Host (Talk Business and Close Up). She has provided professional media consultancy services to some local corporates and embassies in Fiji.
She was the first representative of Fiji to the Commonwealth Youth Parliament in 2021 and is currently the Projects Coordinator of the Fiji Youth Council (endorsed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports). She is also Fiji’s first National Youth Delegate to the Commonwealth Youth Council. Prior to this, she was elected the Leader of Opposition of Fiji’s first Youth Parliament in 2015.
Monica is also an Assistant Tutor in law at the University of the South Pacific.
She has experience in commercial law, conveyancing/real estate, foreign investment, civil litigation and debt recovery.
